Welcome to the Artist section of Private Studio Sessions. This is a brief overview of the Private Studio Sessions platform, and how it works for our partners.

We record the private sessions at our intimate studio in Los Angeles. We shoot each episode with 8 HD cameras and record the music on digital  multi-track. This gives us the ability to edit and mix in post for the best look and sound. We also have a full lighting grid for the best musical aesthetics. We want you to sound and look as good as possible.

We don’t broadcast these sessions live, and there is no live audience. We can shoot our sessions at the artists’ convenience. And since there is no live audience and no ticketing, our sessions don’t conflict with any other live performances or tour stops. It’s just a Private Studio Session.

The service for our members is to provide Video Episodes that can be viewed online, and Audio Podcasts that members can download to take with them.

We focus on all-original music, or contrafact, or music in the Public Domain. The emphasis is on the musicianship and the interactions during the creative process. That is what attracts our members – that ability to observe the creative process behind the scenes.

“You don’t need a mechanical license if you are recording and distributing a musical work you wrote yourself and to which you currently own the copyright. You also do not need a mechanical license for any musical works that are in the public domain. However, the law regarding public domain works is complicated. Before reproducing and distributing a musical work you believe to be in the public domain, you should research its copyright status or consult with an attorney.”

We don’t use a host since our focus is on the music-making process.

We are looking for 30 – 40 minutes of original music, and then we catch a simple un-hosted interview at our bar set. This gives the fans some great music and a little insight into the players. We cut together a 2 – 3 minute promo pulled from the footage we shoot, and you get a free copy that you can use on social media, or your website.

The music goes into the archives and we do a straight 50/50 split with the artists. We pay all the overhead, bandwidth, transaction processing, website maintenance, etc. out of our portion. Every musician also gets a free lifetime membership to the site. We love it when you can appear on more than one episode, and we encourage different combinations of musicians to make it really interesting for the fans.

You can schedule a session whenever you swing through on tour at your convenience.
